B12 Shot Vs. Oral Supplements
When it comes to vitamin B12 deficiency, people are suggested to take a dosage between 1000 and 2000 mcg per day. However, a study found that taking 1,000 mcg of B12 by mouth or injecting the vitamin achieved similar results in treating the deficiencies. It was proved that oral 1,000 mcg of B12 is only absorbed by 1.3% of the body, but the absorption rates of B12 shots are between 55% to 97%. Obviously, the body can absorb 15-97% of the B12 shots. Therefore, even though B12 may come in more concentrated dosages with oral administration, the IM shots still provide the best way to correct B12 deficiency.
