How to Grow Healthier Hair
For most of your life you’ve had the hair on your head. You’ve probably never stopped to think about it but hair is actually a lot more complex than we give it credit. It plays a huge part in identification and even helps transmit sensory information.
Did you know that by week 22 of life, a fetus has all of its hair follicles formed? At this point there are about 5 million follicles on the body and a total of one million on the head. It seems so crazy to think about but it’s actually the most amount of hair follicles that a human will ever have. That is because we do not generate any new ones throughout the course of our lives.
While everyone is different, the hair on our scalp grows about 6 inches per year. Throughout its growth, it goes through three stages according to NCBI:
- Anagen – This is called the active phase of the hair. It’s when a new hair is formed and pushes hair that has stopped growing out of the scalp.
- Catagen – This is the transitional phase of the hair. It is when the hairs on the scalp turn into club hair. This just means hair that has stopped growing. It lasts for about two to three weeks.
- Telogen – This is the resting phase of the hair. It lasts for about 100 days. It just means that nothing really happens to the hair.
Hair growth is different for everyone but it can be traced back to the testosterone in the body. It’s probably a surprise for some women but everyone produces testosterone to different degrees. The amount of testosterone you produce will usually show in how fast and thick the hair can grow. Our bodies are used to make testosterone and Estrogen. This is a balance in the body due to gender. If you’re a female you’ll have more estrogen, which allows for more hair growth on the scalp but less testosterone. They work together but an imbalance can alter the way your hair grows.
There are many factors that can also go into hair growth. Some that you can control and some that you can’t. The speed at which your hair can grow also has to do with your genetics. With that being said, there are different things that you can try that speed up the hair growth process.
One of these things is food! There are specific foods that you can eat so that your hair can grow longer and healthier. Some of them are Eggs, Salmon, Berries, Whole Grains, and Avocados. These foods are high in vitamins and minerals, which support healthy hair growth.
Another way that you can get longer and healthier hair can be from supplements. There are specific vitamins like Biotin and Omega-3 that are used for this specific reason. We even offer biotin injections for hair growth that you can try out. It is called the Inner Beauty Cocktail. It contains Vitamin C, Biotin, and even Glutathione. These three combined can promote healthy hair and even skin!
