What Are Amino Acids

Amino Acids are regularly known as the building blocks of protein in the body. They play an important role in the way our body functions. According to Healthline, they are even needed for vital processes like cell building and synthesis of hormones. While some of them are naturally made in our body, there are some that have to be taken as supplements. They are categorized by essential and non-essential. Out of 20 amino acids, 9 of them are considered essential.

Essential amino acids aren’t made in the body. This means that you must take them through your diet or through supplements. When you consume protein, it is broken down into amino acids in your stomach. This is then used for many different processes like fueling your body, boosting your immune system, and repairing tissue. There are some specific diet choices that can provide you with the amount you may need. Some of them are meat, poultry, and eggs. Essential acids are the core of many vital processes. Some of the nine essential ones and their functions are:

  • Tryptophan- This one helps with maintaining proper nitrogen balance and creating serotonin. This helps regulate your appetite and mood.
  • Leucine- It is called a branched- chain amino acid. Leucine is critical for protein synthesis and muscle repair.
  • Histidine- It is used to produce histamine. Histamine is a neurotransmitter that is vital to immune response and digestion. It is also a critical one to maintain our myelin sheath.

While essential ones aren’t made naturally, nonessential amino acids are. Just because they’re called nonessential doesn’t mean they aren’t needed. They are still important for many of the functions in our body. Within nonessential amino acids, there’s such a thing called conditionally essential. That means that in specific circumstances the body uses them to fight off illnesses or even stress. An example is Arginine. It is a nonessential amino acid but it becomes essential when the body needs to fight off certain diseases like cancer.

At The IV Lounge, we offer a cocktail that includes different amino acids called the Master Cocktail. It contains Glutathione, which is made from three amino acids like Cysteine, Glycine, and Glutamine. All put together, this IV Cocktail helps in preventing diseases and maintaining a high quality of life.
